Hello My Fellow Coworkers, Sisters and Brothers of UC and CSU Universities:

 

Many of you may already know me. I am Marianna M. Battiste. I work at the UC Davis Medical Center. I served as a Trustee on the Executive Board for our Union 2014-2016. I have a total of 32 years combined representing my coworkers and other fellow colleagues. I want to share with you since you deserve to hear the truth about our current Leadership. Some of you will choose to ignore this letter and some of you will grasp the information and use it as a tool for your future for our future. When I was working in the field up and down the State I met a lot of you. Some did not care about what is going on with the leadership of our Union or care much about being in the Union. Here’s the “Reality” On the UC side- we are not safe in our positions. There is language in our contract that totally omits our security in our positions while working for the University. The language was bargained by our lead negotiator Jason Rabinowitz who heads the Team Unity Slate. Please don’t take my word for it check out our bargaining contract under Article 13 Section A.

I have a team Statewide made up of all rank and file workers-  some who are retired or indefinitely laid off from the University of California, that has been misrepresented by the current leadership. “Workers Linked Together” We have worked hard to create a data base of all the members in Local 2010 & we have found that over half of us (which was close to 14,000 in 2016) is significantly below 8,000 now Statewide. We know there are some people who have retired but none of our positions are being back-filled. For some of us, our work is starting to be contracted out. I touch lightly on this subject only to grasp your attention in hopes that you do have a care and concern about the protection of our future, your future. I encourage you to do your research since we have a website you may go to obtain information and ask questions. We have got to stick together and stay strong and United since we need a Leadership that is for the members & run by Rank and File members- not a staff heavy management leadership that represents us as managers acting the same and treating us the same as our Employer’s Management that are only operating and acting for their own personal gain. We need Leadership that represents all Members not personal selected workers. Currently, every one of us counts more than ever. I encourage you to stand and use your voice- it counts &  it is important. United We Stand. Please take the initiative and vote this election. Let’s get the perpetrators out and nominate our fellow coworkers who has our best interest at heart.
